Protgen Company was founded in August 2004. It is a research-oriented high-tech enterprise founded by overseas returnees and undertakes the industrial transformation tasks of various scientific research projects.
Protgen Company is a constituent unit of the "National Engineering Research Center for Protein Technology" of Tsinghua University. The center is a national engineering laboratory established by the National Development and Reform Commission at Tsinghua University. The honorary directors of the laboratory are Zhou Guangzhao, former president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and James Watson, the father of DNA and Nobel laureate, and Professor Luo Yongzhang is the director of the laboratory.
Protgen Company is dedicated to the research and development of recombinant protein drugs and in vitro diagnostic reagents, exploring the mechanisms of tumorigenesis and metastasis, aging, metabolism, and neurodegenerative diseases. It has established a unique research and development and large-scale preparation technology platform for recombinant protein drugs, reaching the international leading level. During the 11th Five-Year Plan to the 13th Five-Year Plan period, it undertook many national-level scientific research projects, including major projects of the National 863 Program, major projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, and the Outstanding Youth Science Fund. It has obtained 80 domestic and foreign authorized invention patents and has experience in successfully developing recombinant protein national Class 1.1 new drugs and national Class III (high-category) medical devices.
